As a writer and editor with nearly a decade of professional experience, I offer a critique service for short-form and book-length fiction. My content editing and critique service considers plot, character development, world-building, motivation, pacing, structure, clarity, and more. My critiques provide objective, thoughtful consideration of how writers at any stage in their careers can improve their manuscripts and make them more attractive to literary agents and publishers.

Genres

I critique short-form stories and book-length manuscripts in the following genres: YA and Adult science fiction/fantasy, YA and Adult romance, and literary fiction. I also take on clients writing thrillers, women’s fiction, contemporary fiction, erotica, and humor on a case by case basis. All prospective clients will be asked to provide a brief description of the manuscript and its genre, a short sample, and a list of goals for the manuscript critique.

Services

I will read your manuscript closely, making in-text comments as I proceed, and craft a detailed edit letter to discuss areas of improvement including plot, structure, pacing, character development and motivation, world-building, language/style, and clarity. My comments are provided on a holistic level to help you consider your work and improve it. We can also schedule an optional meeting (30-60 minutes; via phone or Zoom) to discuss my suggestions and address any questions or concerns you may have.

Rates

I charge the following flat-rate fees for manuscript critiques:

• Short stories (500-7,000 words): $100
• Novellas (7,001-30,000 words): $250
• Short novels (30,001-60,000 words): $400
• Novels (60,001-100,000 words): $650
• Long novels (100,001 to 120,000 words): $800
• For manuscripts over 120,000 words, please contact me directly to discuss rates and completion schedule.

Rates are current as of September 2023 and are based on payment via Venmo or PayPal.

Terms

All rights to the manuscript and future financial earnings remain solely the author’s. Clients will be asked to pay 100% of my flat-rate fee upfront. In most cases, I am able to complete the manuscript critique within two to four weeks of receiving your fee and manuscript. I am most comfortable reading and critiquing an electronic version of your manuscript, but physical copies including printing and postage can be discussed.
